A Hackney Love Affair

Hackney Homemade Markets were born out of a love for Hackney by dedicated local resident, Jane MacIntyre. Jane is a travel writer who counts Hackney as her favourite place in the world and who writes a blog about all the best things to see and do in the area.

Hackney has an incredible amount of wonderful homegrown talent, which is showcased in our two local markets. The Saturday Market takes place in a beautiful church garden in Hackney Central, right opposite M&S on Mare St. Its older, but smaller, sister market on a Sunday is in the lively Book Box courtyard, coinciding with the weekly Chatsworth Road street market.

More than just a Market

Hackney Homemade Markets are much more than a mere shopping experience. They are the perfect opportunity for local people to come together in a pleasant environment in the heart of Hackney.

Fair Trade

The idea was to create a local market that is as inclusive as possible. The markets support and encourage local traders and small businesses, as well as charity and community groups. Members of the community, particularly disadvantaged young people, are offered the chance to work on a stall to improve their confidence and skillset.

  • We price our one-off stalls from as little as £20 (aiming to encourage new traders) and we offer discounts for those prepared to commit to a series of dates.
  • A number of free stalls are given away to charitable groups each week. Please get in touch if you would like to raise some money at our market.
  • A percentage of all our profits goes to the inspirational Clapton Improvement Society.

High quality, sensibly priced goods that appeal to the community as a whole are on sale. All products are made and sourced locally and sold by local traders wherever possible. Hackney Homemade Markets show respect for its partners and employees and for the environment.
